Why the first 90 days home matter more than the rehab

Recovery is tested when you return to everyday life. Here is how to plan for it.

The transition is the risk

Leaving a structured environment and returning to old routines, relationships, and stressors is one of the most vulnerable periods in recovery.

What a good plan includes

Outpatient care or therapy scheduled before discharge, a stable and supportive living situation, and regular peer support such as mutual-help groups.

For some people, medications for addiction treatment continue after the program ends.

Involve family

Families can help by learning about the condition, supporting the plan, and looking after their own wellbeing too.
